-Active citizens building community together

About

Since 2000 our primary focus has been on providing tools to promote positive change through volunteerism and community activism. Begun as a grassroots, volunteer group, the organization became a nonprofit in 2002.

FutureHeights programs, including the Heights Observer community newspaper, hosting national and local speakers, sponsoring community forums, promoting the Best of the Heights survey and awards, and leading neighborhood walking tours, educate the public about important local issues and mobilize people to take action.

We believe all citizens can contribute energy, ideas, and action to building a better community and we work to provide tools to make this a reality.

Our Mission: FutureHeights promotes a vibrant and sustainable future for Cleveland Heights and University Heights, Ohio, through innovative ideas and civic engagement.*

     We value
  • Active and informed citizen participation in community decision making
  • Innovative ideas in addressing the challenges of inner-ring suburbs
  • Open and effective communication and partnerships among community stakeholders
  • A thriving local economy
  • Historic neighborhoods and commercial districts
  • High quality and sustainable design
  • A regional approach to innovative planning and development

*What is civic engagement?
There are many ways in which people participate in civic, community and political life and, by doing so, express their engaged citizenship. From volunteering to voting, from community organizing to political advocacy, the defining characteristic of active civic engagement is the commitment to participate and contribute to the improvement of one’s community, neighborhood and nation.
