2001: Lee Road Design Charrette

FutureHeights hosted 40 residents in a morning workshop in the basement of Church of the Saviour, to discuss and envision design ideas for the Lee Road Corridor.  Later, volunteer architects and artists rendered the information gathered and presented their final drawings to the public at the CHUH Library.

2005: Phil Star - The Continuing Significance of Neighborhoods

Phil Star, Director of the Center for Neighborhood Development at the Levin College of Urban Affairs at Cleveland State University, led a stimulating discussion on the topic of neighborhoods and their role within our community. Philip Star began the discussion by reviewing basic principles of neighborhood planning. Together he and the audience considered questions such as 'What is a neighborhood?', 'Why are neighborhoods important?' and 'What makes a neighborhood a community?'

2005: Storefront and Signage Design Workshop

FutureHeights sponsored a storefront and signage design workshop on April 29, 2005.  Designed to educate merchants, building owners, and local planners the workshop was attended by over 30 people and held at Studio You on Lee Road.  Terry Schwarz of the Urban Design Center, and Vince Reddy and Jevon Hull of the City of Cleveland Heights Planning Department presented.

Attended by 115 members of FutureHeights, Donovan's talk on 'Competitive Neighborhood Commercial Districts' was riveting, timely, and engaging.

Picture Noble-Monticello, a citizen participation project, was held on two Saturdays in June, 2005.  The first day, 12 residents of the Noble-Monticello neighborhood were given disposable cameras and turned loose to take pictures of the the physical features (homes, gardens, public spaces, architectural features) that best exemplified their neighborhood.

The 4th Annual Best of Cleveland Heights Awards were held Sunday, September 28, at Nightown Restaurant.  Over 100 people attended and celebrated the results of over 500 unique entries to the FutureHeights Best Of Cleveland Heights survey.  New this year was the inclusion of University Heights businesses.

2008: East Derbyshire Condo Project Tour

Over 40 FutureHeights members and friends toured the City of Cleveland Heights' East Derbyshire Condo Project on Saturday, October 25, 2008.  Host, and city housing manager Rick Wagner, gave an overview on the project and its mission, as well as a tour of properties in various phases of completion.  This project is made possible through Community Development Block Grant funding, a federal program.

2008:FutureHeights hosts International Study Group on Civic Engagement

FutureHeights hosted a Polish delegation touring the United States on September 22 in the Levey Room of the CHUH Mail Library.  Brought to the table by the Cleveland Council on World Affairs, the group's primary focus was on civic engagement and how non-governmental organizations and local governments interact and cooperate.
 
Executive Director Deanna Bremer Fisher, FutureHeights president Mark Majewski, Assistant City Manager Susanna Niermann O'Neill, and PATH director Lita Gonzalez presented.

2009: Citizen Journalism Workshop-Bob Rosenbaum

“You Too Can Write the News,” a free workshop for citizen journalists, was held on Saturday, May 16, at the Noble Neighborhood Library, Cleveland Heights. Bob Rosenbaum is an award-winning reporter, editor and publisher -- at local, regional and national newspapers and magazines -- for nearly 30 years, and a Cleveland Heights resident.

Three local politicians from different municipalities got together on June 17, at the invitation of FutureHeights and the League of Women Voters, to discuss with residents how Cleveland’s suburban governments can work together — or possibly merge — to share resources and revenues.

2010: FutureNow Grog Shop

On January 14th, the recently-formed FutureHeights FutureNow Committee presented its first event; a fundraiser at the Grog Shop in support of FutureHeights. The event featured the entertainment of an all-Heights line-up of oldboy, Twelve 21, Sixes and Sevens and Max Stern. The Grog Shop provided the perfect forum for friends, merchants, Heights residents and music lovers to come together to celebrate life in the Heights. The event was a great success with over 150 people in attendance raising over $700 for FutureHeights. The 2010 FutureHeights Annual Meeting in June featured community organizers Trevelle Harp, of North East Ohio Alliance for Hope (NOAH), and Kirk Noden, Director of the Mahoning Valley Organizing Collaborative.
 
Attended by over 100 people, discussion focused on grassroots neighborhood organizing and its effectiveness in bringing about positive change in challenged areas.
